Services and Features

WAP/ Internet Browsing

  • Handset Browsing
      With GPRS you'll be able to browse the internet using their GPRS handset. Most websites available in the internet can be accessed through GPRS enabled handsets.
  • Laptop/ Personal Computer (PC) Browsing
      You will also be allowed to use the GPRS mobile as a dial-up modem and log in to the internet using a PC or a Laptop. Standard connectivity tools like data cable, infrared, bluetooth, as well as driver software is required for Laptop/PC browsing
  • PCMCIA/USB Connect Card
      Standard PCMCIA or USB connect cards can be connected to PC/Laptops for browsing. Handset is not required for using connect cards; the SIM card needs to be inserted inside the connect card for internet browsing

    GPRS Service

    Q. How can I know if my handset supports GPRS?
    A. Most current handset models released within the last 2-3 years supports GPRS. You can also verify with the handset manufactures or the handset manual.

    Q. What is the difference between GPRS and EDGE?
    A. Technically EDGE is a slightly faster data bearer than GPRS, but both technology provides the same services

    Q. I'm a Pre-paid/ Call & Control customer. Can I use GPRS?
    A. Yes, currently GPRS is also available for both pre-paid and call& control customers. For details call customer care.

    Q. I am using other operator's EDGE/GPRS service with my handset. Can I use banglalink GPRS with the same handset?
    A. Yes, but in some handsets, banglalink GPRS settings might overwrite other operator's settings.

    Q. Can I use MSN/Yahoo messenger?
    A. Yes, you can use messenger services by downloading free chat clients like mig33, agile messenger, UltraIM, etc.

    Q. Can I check Email using GPRS?
    A. Yes, you can use any web based email account like Yahoo, Hotmail through GPRS. Other email accounts (business email, email account provided by internet provider) might also be accessed through GPRS; depending on the type of handset used.

    Q. Can I only activate MMS or Web browsing service?
    A. No; all three GPRS services need to be activated (WAP, MMS and WEB). However, you may use only MMS or web browsing if you so wish.

    Q. What is WAP?
    A. WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) is a special protocol that enables mobile phone users to access the internet in a simplified format. WAP sites only displays texts; they do not contain images and or sounds. Most handsets have built in WAP support.

    Q. My handset does not support web, but supports WAP. Can I browse the internet?
    A. Yes, you can visit the simplified WAP versions of most popular web sites. If you enter the web address, you will be automatically taken to the respective web site's WAP versions.

    Q. What is the charge for using GPRS?
    A. Monthly unlimited package: TK. 650/month (excl. VAT)
        Pay as you go/ volume charge: TK. 0.015/KB (excl. VAT)

    Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS)

    Q. What does MMS mean?
    A. MMS is the abbreviation of “Multimedia Messaging Service”. This is a service which enables the customer to send image, sound clip etc. to another mobile.

    Q. I tried sending an MMS but it did not go through. What should I do?
    A. Please check whether the MMS settings have been saved in the handset or not. Also, the maximum allowed size for MMS is 100 KB; messages exceeding 100 KB will not be delivered.

    Q. Can I send MMS to prepaid numbers?
    A. Currently only GPRS enabled banglalink postpaid customer can send MMS to another banglalink GPRS enabled postpaid customer.

    Q. What is the maximum allowed size of MMS?
    A. 100 Kilobytes (with attachment)

    Q. I have sent a MMS, but the recipient claims he or she did not receive. Why?
    A. Check whether the recipient has GPRS service with MMS settings enabled or not.

    Q: What is the charges for sending MMS?
    A: TK. 5/Per MMS

    Q. My handset supports GPRS, but I can't send MMS. Why?
    A. Check your MMS settings. If the problem still persists, remove the settings and enter again.

    Connect Card

    Q. What is a GPRS/EDGE connect card?
    A. It is a device where you can insert a GPRS enabled SIM card and get connected to the internet through a PC/Laptop.

    Q. How do I install a connect card?
    A. The Connect card needs to be connected to either PCMCIA port (Laptop) or USB port (laptop/PC). Most connect cards are bundled with appropriate driver software, which can be installed easily.

    Q. Do I need a data cable for my mobile to use connect card?
    A. No, actually connect card totally eliminates the need for using the handset and its accessories for using internet.

    Q. Can I receive calls during using a connect card?
    A. Usually not; you have to remove the SIM card from your handset in order to insert it in to the connect card.

    Q. Why would I use a connect card when I can use internet by connecting my handset through data cable/infra-red?
    A. Handset battery charge depletes very fast when it is used for GPRS browsing. Also, infra-red connectivity is unstable, and a slight movement might cause disconnection.

    Q. Where can I find a connect card?
    A. Connect cards are available in most computer shops situated in IDB. Also, it can be found in ETC.
